TrueNAS plugin automates Proxmox VM disk provisioning
A new TrueNAS plugin can automate block-storage disks for Proxmox virtual machines when Proxmox and TrueNAS run on separate hosts. It is ready for community use, while enterprise testing continues.
People running Proxmox VE on one server and TrueNAS on another can use the TrueNAS storage plugin to add virtual-machine disks with fewer manual steps. TrueNAS announced the plugin on September 17 for community use and says enterprise testing is under way.
What it changes
The plugin presents network block storage through iSCSI or NVMe/TCP. It creates a separate ZFS volume for each VM disk and maps it to Proxmox.
Check the fit first
TrueNAS says version 25.10 or later is required. Proxmox VE 8.x supports iSCSI; NVMe/TCP requires Proxmox VE 9.x. The plugin stores VM disks. ISO installation images and Proxmox vzdump backup files require an NFS or SMB share, or another suitable destination.
