Simplyblock adds replication and S3 backups for OpenShift
Simplyblock has added volume replication and S3-compatible backups for OpenShift storage, giving administrators another way to recover persistent data after a site or cluster failure.
Simplyblock announced volume replication and S3-compatible backups for OpenShift Virtualization and OpenShift Container Platform on September 29. The new functions protect persistent data used by virtual machines and applications.
What the new functions do
- Asynchronous replication: transfers snapshots of selected volumes to a second storage cluster on a set schedule. If the source site fails, an administrator triggers failover. The target holds the last successfully replicated snapshot, so data written afterwards can be missing.
- Volume migration: Simplyblock says the platform can move a running volume to a second cluster without disruption for planned maintenance or relocation.
- S3 backup and restore: the backup workflow copies volume data to S3-compatible object storage. Restoring a backup creates a new volume, exposed to applications through a new persistent volume claim.
