Duplicati 2.4.0.105 reads backups from earlier storage versions

The test release of Duplicati 2.4.0.105 can read a backup destination as it looked earlier. Recovery depends on the provider retaining the required older data versions.

Duplicati 2.4.0.105, released on October 24, 2026 in the Canary testing channel, adds access to a backup destination as it stood at a selected date and time. This allows file recovery after cloud backup data has been damaged or deleted, provided the storage provider still retains the required earlier versions.

Changes

  • Reading an earlier state. The remote-point-in-time option specifies the date and time used to select backup file versions for downloading. Older data no longer needs to be manually copied into a separate destination first.
  • Read-only destination. With the option enabled, Duplicati blocks operations that change remote files. Reading earlier versions supports recovery of the user's files; the destination's current damaged state remains unchanged.

Recovery requirements

The feature supports Amazon S3 with versioning enabled, compatible S3 services that can list object versions, and Duplicati Storage with object locking enabled, which prevents protected file versions from being deleted for as long as their fixed retention period remains in effect. S3 services require Duplicati's default AWS client. The restore account must be allowed to list and read versions. These are versions of backup data files retained by the storage provider, separate from the restore points created by Duplicati.

This release is intended for testing. When the new program version first uses a local backup database, it upgrades that database to schema 22, which earlier releases cannot open. Going back requires downgrading the schema to 21 with duplicati-database-tool.
